Hi All,

An important update.  I am no longer adding any extras to the waiting list for 2019.

It looks like I will be working full time for TAFE as of Semester 1 2019.  As such I am putting k9 manners on hold for now to allow time off on Saturdays for myself to spend with family, friends and my critters.  I will finish those that are on the waiting list for 2019 (approximately 25), and these classes will most likely run through in to April/May 2019.  If I do not end up working the extra hours, the classes will be reopened with plenty of time to spare to ensure there is no extra delay (compared to normal).

Thankyou for your support in attendance of these classes over the past 4 years.  Private training on Sundays will still be available, along with a  few short courses in Loose Leash Walking, Barkour and Ready Vet Go! throughout the year.

K9 Manners is for dogs from 16 weeks to 16 years old  or more.  Honestly, there really no upper limit on age.

That old wives tale that you can't teach an old dog new tricks..... well that is just a load of phooey.

This course will give you the skills to train your dog to be the valued family companion they deserve to be.

Like the Puppy class, the first week is an orientation week - so is DOG FREE. The orientation can go for between 1-2 hours (depends how many questions you ask).

The course runs for the 6 weeks. You must present your dogs current vaccination certificate prior to the first dog class (week 2).

The program uses positive reinforcement training - using a clicker and high value food rewards.

You will be supplied the clicker at your dog free orientation, as well as a booklet with the course information in it.

During the course we cover all your basic behaviours such as, loose lead walking,  sit, drop, leave, look at me, rest comfortably on your mat, come when called, wait and stay.  We will discuss and teach you how to manage other common issues such as jumping, mouthing, barking and toilet training.

Your dogs will be training in local BCC parks.  These parks will provide some "real life" experience for you.
However, the parks I have chosen are away from main roads and have plenty of shade and most importantly, space to allow us to get as much distance as each dog needs.  There is ample parking at each location.

In my previous dog training classes, I often found that dogs (and owners) relaxed into the environment after the first week or so, and this although a good thing, means that you don't get to practice the skills you really need in the real world.  So to cover this, you will be rotating between 2-3 parks throughout the course.  The parks are all within a 5km radius of Camp Hill, so there is no need to worry about distance to travel.  I will let you know the locations at the orientation.

During the orientation and then in classes I will talk a lot about
canine body language – this will help you understand your dog and what is good and what is bad for him/her.

It is your responsibility as your dog's guardian to look out for them, and to be able to take steps to protect them, and set them up for success in real life situations.  The course will give you the skills to do this.

I'm also passionate about
enrichment and improving the lives of our back yard dogs.  So expect to hear a lot about this during the course :)

The class has a maximum of 4 participants.
