Virtual - Tricks Course

Can't make it to class?  Join an online class with others pups and their people

Next Starting Date: Saturday 26th September 2020 - 1030am - 1 position available at 14/9

Taking interest for future courses. Apply below.

This virtual course delivered via Zoom is designed for those that want to teach their dogs some tricks.  Starting small and building on the complication level.

This class is designed for all dogs - from puppy to adult with no lower or upper age limits.

During the 6 week course we will begin to teach your pups some tricks, that you can build on at their individual rates.

The class is designed to build engagement and fun with your dog and increase that dog-human bond.  When you are training a trick, not only are you having fun, but you are also engaging with your dog, and building on their confidence and trust.

Tricks are also useful.  Tell me, would it be handy to have a dog that can close doors and drawers, bring you shoes, pick up rubbish and put their toys away?

Tricks are also a great way to engage fearful and shy dogs, and work the minds of those high energy and high drive dogs or dogs that are on crate rest or restricted exercise.

We will teach tricks using a few methods, including luring (follow food or toy), targeting (targeting to an object/hand), capturing (capture of a naturally occurring behaviour and adding a cue) or shaping (marking small increments toward the final goal).

Throughout the 6 week course you can choose your location for training.  I would always start inside in a low arousal and low distraction environment, but you may choose to increase the challenge by modifying your environment as you go.

There is no age limit for this course.  Course cost is very affordable at $120 for 6 weeks, with a maximum of 5 teams enrolled.

What will you need?
  • A dog (or cat or any animal that you have that is motivate and you want to train)
  • Internet access - wifi or phone - if you want to take it on the road - a phone plan capable of doing zoom on the run.
  • A platform that you can use to view the class and also allows video for me to see you .
  • Markers (clicker/yes/thumbs up) - we will go over this on the first week.
  • Safe space
  • Target Stick/or hand
  • Hula Hoop
  • Skate Board (nothing flash - Kmart versions are fine)
