Conditioning Challenge 2018

This year the challenge is on for fitness and conditioning.  Some of these skills are simple, and others are quite difficult.  Please take the advice of your veterinarian or animal physiotherapist before completing these tasks if your animal is not in peak physical condition or is recovering from injury.

​Keep training sessions short and fun, and aim to do no more than 3-5 repetitions during each session to ensure you do not place too much strain on your pet.

JANUARY = Shake a Paw in Sit and Stand
  • With your animal in a stable sit and stand – ask for a shake a paw/foot/hoof
FEBRUARY = Two feet on Two feet off
  • Have your pet stand with hind feet on slightly raised surface, front feet on the floor
MARCH = Pivot on Stool
  • Teach your pet to stand with front feet on raised surface, hind feet on the floor. Pivot around.
APRIL = Walk Backwards
  • Teach your animal to walk backwards 1m (with coordination on their behalf, and no intimidation on yours).
MAY = Walk Backwards and take 1 step up
  • Teaching hind end awareness. Teach your animal to walk back and step up one step.
JUNE = Up the Anti. Hind Feed on Stable Stool, Front feed on unstable surface
  • Teach your dog to stand with hind feet on stool/phone book, and front feet on unstable surface (wobble board/disk/pillow).
JULY = Spin and Rewind
  • Teach your animal to turn clockwise one rotation and stop, and then anticlockwise one rotation and stop.
AUGUST = Stand on 3 legs, raise one front foot
  • Getting harder. Teach your animal to stand on 3 legs (stable position), and lift one front foot and hold up for 1-2 seconds by themselves.
SEPTEMBER = Stand on 3 legs, raise one hind foot
  • Teach your animal to stand on 3 legs (stable position), and lift one hind foot and hold up for 1-2 seconds by themselves.
OCTOBER = Bow
  • Teach your animal to offer a bow.
NOVEMBER = Skateboard 2-3 feet
  • Teach your animal to stand with 2-3 feet on a moving surface (skateboard etc) and walk 2-3 steps.
DECEMBER = Balance on 2 feet (one front one back) or walk over Cavalettis forward and backward
  • Choose what your pet can achieve.

EVERYONE THAT SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES ALL CHALLENGES WILL RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION & CHEW CHOMP and CHILL DISCOUNT VOUCHER

 
Rules/Requirements
Competition is open to ALL animals.  If you can train the animal, it can enter.  Please consult your veterinarian or physiotherapist if you have concerns regarding your pets ability to complete tasks.

You do not have to enter with the same animal each month. 
 
Post your video to All Pets Education and Training Facebook page (either direct or via YouTube) or Email your Video with your name, pets name and trick month to [email protected]
 
All behaviours must be trained using reward based methods. Keep your training sessions short.
Have fun with your pet!  And more importantly make sure your pet is having fun with you!!
Consider your pet’s safety – if they are not suitable for a behaviour or skill adjust it so that it suits them. 
 
Video submissions must be no longer than 60 seconds. Preferably 30 seconds or less.   
Videos must be submitted by last day of the month.
 
*Encouragement Awards must be collected in store from Chew Chomp and Chill
