Food Tubes - an easy treat delivery method
I have recently been approached by a couple of clients looking for an alternative treat delivery method. This is mostly due to limited mobility on their behalf. I can see that they would also be a benefit for dogs on weight loss diets (smaller treat delivered), and for dogs that might take treats hard (fingers aren't near their teeth).
In my research I have discovered a popular product in the US called a Food Tube. These are tubes designed for hiking/camping, that are filled from the end, sealed with a clip and rolled over to push out like a toothpaste tube.
I have tried these, and they are difficult to fill and to fit the end clip. So an alternate method is using a soft, sauce bottle (available from the $2 shop).
Filling these with a smooth consistency, meaty flavoured product seems to work well, and they are able to squeeze out a small amount easily.
I have tried two different mixtures.
What you will need:
Blender/Stick Mixer
Spoon
Sauce Bottle
Table Spoon
Ingredients:
Farex Rice Cereal
Water
Baby food sachet 170g / Tuna 95g (or anything similar)

The first I made was using the baby food (vegetable and lamb) 1 packet , mixed with 3 tablespoons of farex rice cereal powder and a small amount of water – blended well.
The second was a 95g tin of tuna, mixed with 3 tablespoons of farex rice cereal powder and a small amount of water – again blended well.
The final consistency should be that of mashed potato. Any thinner and it will just pour out of the container, any thicker and it is too difficult to squeeze out.
Spoon the mixture into the sauce bottle - store in the fridge for a few days. Shake well prior to each use.

I have tried these on my dogs and they are easy to use, and they approve.
